Sabotage - Demo 2012
Seeing a band live before hearing recorded material always sets the bar in a strange location, it is hard to make a judgement when you hear recorded material if you know band live is shit or if they are exactly what you want to hear. Sabotage is a mixture of Easy Way Out and Desperate Times, chances are if you don’t know who these bands are, you don’t live around Ontario or a few North Western States. Regardless, Sabotage played their first shows a little over a month ago with Agitator on a weekend tour. The band played well, nothing overwhelmingly incredible, but good nonetheless, soon after they released their demo tape. Knowing the guys in the band, the style of music they have put onto this demo makes perfect sense and believe me when I genuinely say this is the kind of hardcore I want to listen to. In a world where more often than not a band either plays an extremely punk style of hardcore or a beat down style, and I use the term beat down very loosely, it is hard to find a good balance which most audiences can be appeased. Sabotage does this perfectly in my opinion, with the perfect middle ground of fast pissed riffs, straining, agressive vocals and heavy mosh parts. A three song demo is more bold than one would think, considering you have three songs to show everyone what you are about. The demo had truthfully a very fuzzy sound to it considering it was only put on cassette and the official digital copy is a cassette rip. It does somewhat cheapen the effect when thinking that this was attempt to make things sound more “raw” but regardless the music is what is important. The demo drives, hard and heavy, with no filler (obviously) and no bullshit. I like this demo a lot and look forward to Sabotage making more music. Its fun music that will make you want to pit, period, plain and simple.

Here’s a photo of Sabotage I took, and a bunch of words about their demo by a guy. All of this is excellent.
